Monday Musings

Journal Entry: Mon Jan 25, 2016, 9:38 AM
It could be because I'm tired as hell or it could be because I feel sick, but as I go through dA during my class time, something occurred to me. I've been on here for three years, however, I had an old account since 2012 (which is long deactivated). During those times, I've seen many artists, met many people, and have seen how this online society has risen and fallen. It sure makes me feel especially old seeing how many artists I've admired, encouraged, and watched have grown so much from where I first noticed them. It's quite amazing how time has a way of showing that.

The main community I'm a part of has certainly changed and it's not just the people. Even though many continue creating TF2 art (whether it be 3-D, crafts, or traditional), I've watched how they either dipped their toes (or straight-out dove) into other subjects outside their comfort zone. I'll be straightforward here: The art that really pops out to me in this community are the ones that are different, eye-catching, and very well-done. Going back through my Faves folders, I realize how much my tastes have changed. My TF2 folder is especially stuffed with images ranging from mind-blowing to cringey so not only will I go through that, but I will be more critical with what I fave from my notifications.

In my last journal, I mentioned about my attempts at trying to improve my art. I've looked at so many different images with Realism and Cartoonism that I'm slowly beginning to see some aspects that make art truly impressive. Going through my Favorites and Watch Notifications, I realize how despite the huge amount of TF2 art around here, a good majority feels a little repetitive and flat. Several artists may have noticed this already as they are either experimenting with different model placements, skins, and subject matters. Some are outstanding. Some fall flat. But what matters is that they step outside what's become the norm and have started trying new things. That alone helps them to grow immensely and even if they fall back into creating something TF2-related, there's always a slight change to their artwork; an evolution of some sort that's not noticeable at first.

Those in a community, fandom, or just plain admire other artists, I encourage you to take a look at their old artwork and compare it to their current productions. Whether they are commissions, doodles, or hobby images, one can see the evolution on a much grander scale. Sometimes it can be seen that artists improve greatly within a week. Some have grown within a few months. Many have and continue to polish within the past year. We as Artists are always growing and it's those that seek to improve are the ones that shine through the most.

Sorry for the long wall of philosophical text here. Just wanted to share my thoughts on some things as I continue observing things that go on here. Final words: Continue evolving, my fellow art-mates!

PS. Thank you for the BDay wishes!

PSS. I'll be taking out my deviations from storage while on the subject matter. I think it's time to show people my cringey past.

Hello there, Viewer! My name is Nylten and I am the type of person who accepts everybody for who they are regardless of gender, race, affiliation with fandoms, etc. I WILL however, criticize on those who are so stupid that they deserve a massive reality check. I'm gamer who is open to almost all fandoms. However, I will avoid the darkest parts as they are disgusting.

I am currently a third-year student at a liberal arts college in Ashland, Oregon (United States). I am working to earn my Bachelor of the Fine Arts degree. Due to my busy schedule, I will do my best to post my art whenever I can whether it be requests, doodles, or projects from class.

My art style is more of a Variety. I do digital, Garry's Mod (3D Model Posing), traditional, cartoons (that includes manga-style), crafts, photography, and realism. My forte is the concept arts and designs. I'm hoping that my career will involve this genre.

90% of my artwork is done by hand (that includes a tablet). The main programs that I use are Sumo Paint, Garry's Mod, MS Paint (for comics and coloring), and Picasa 3 (to edit lighting and crop images, usually for photographs).

I hope you enjoy my artwork!

If I suddenly Fave-Bomb, that means I finally had time to go through some messages and look at your artwork that showed up in my DeviantWatch Messages. As for the Llama-Bombs, I just like to hand them out thanks to the One-Click Llama Button.

I'm also trying to sell some of my artwork to get a little bit of a headstart in my career. You can find me at Redbubble and Fine Arts America under the name "Nylten Emeda". Critiques are also welcome as long as you do not insult the artist.
